2018 SMP Health Needs Assessment Pilot Study

Data Results From Open-Ended Questionnaire

Responses generated were obtained from a 16 open-ended health needs assessment questionnaire. The needs assessment surveyed 144 unsheltered homeless persons. It gleaned information about the needs, community resource utilization, health care utilization, health insurance status, health literacy, health conditions, and demographics of this population. Results showed that the top three needs are food, medical care, and shelter and many of the respondents utilize hospital emergency rooms as their primary source of health care. The data generated will assist with the specific services and resources Street Medicine Phoenix will provide during “Street Runs” for individuals experiencing homelessness around the Phoenix metropolitan area.
